    Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is defined as pain resulting from an injury or illness that continues longer than the usual recovery time.


  • Chronic pain may be continuous ,or it may come and go regularly or sporadically.

  • Chronic pain affects approximately sixty million North Americans.

  • Chronic pain does not typically go away despite efforts to relieve it.

  • An estimated fifty to seventy percent of people in chronic pain find that chronic pain interferes with sleep, leading to fatigue.

  • Chronic pain can affect quality of life, relationships with friends and family and economic security - not only for the person in pain, but also for family members.

  • Research has shown that using multiple coping strategies such as exercise, relaxation and positive thought patterns can be successful when combined with, physical therapy, prescribed medications, supplements and other treatments.
